ThermoformingThe cost-effective alternative for smaller series

Thermoforming for plastic trays & packaging

For many years, LICEFA has used thermoforming to produce plastic trays and packaging cost-effectively – an ideal complement to our injection moulding portfolio.

Adds to injection moulding

Part of our end-to-end packaging system.

Cost-effective for small batches

Low mould costs, even for small quantities.

Proven process

Used in our production for many years.

Thermoformed plastic trays

By thermoforming, we form cost-effective plastic trays and packaging that show their strengths particularly in small to medium series. A heated plastic sheet is drawn over the mould and takes on its contour – creating the right holder for every product.

Our strength lies in combining proven packaging expertise with the ability to implement customer-specific requirements quickly and practically. The result is solutions that are functionally convincing and integrate perfectly into existing applications.

FAQ on thermoforming

When is thermoforming a better choice than injection moulding?
Thermoforming is particularly worthwhile for small to medium series and for flat holders such as inserts and trays, as the mould costs are significantly lower than in injection moulding. For stable, three-dimensional components in large quantities, on the other hand, injection moulding is usually more cost-effective. We advise you on which process suits your product.
Which materials do you use for thermoforming?
We process common sheet materials such as PP, PS and PVC – in a dissipative (ESD) version on request. Depending on the requirements, the materials are food-safe or acid-resistant and designed for continuous operating temperatures of around −10 °C to +80 °C. Which material is right depends on load, environment and regulations.
What if nothing in the standard range fits?
Then we make your tray to measure. Send us the dimensions or a sample of your product – we develop the right holder in a 3D CAD design suited to production and match it to the packaging you want. For early validation, we can provide you with a 3D-printed sample; before series production you receive a first sample for approval – including printing and final assembly on request. More on this under Custom manufacturing and Prototyping.
Are the trays ESD-capable for electronics production?
Yes. For sensitive electronics we offer dissipative versions with resistance values in the range of 10⁴ to 10¹¹ Ω, which discharge electrostatic charges in a controlled way. This reliably protects components and printed circuit boards during storage and transport.

Which layout suits your product?

Send us the dimensions or a sample of your product – we will recommend the right tray or make it to your specifications.
